Delhi Authorities Launch Major Crackdown on LPG Distribution Irregularities
In a sweeping enforcement operation, authorities in Delhi have carried out more than 540 raids targeting irregularities in LPG distribution across the capital. This intensive crackdown has resulted in the seizure of over 2,027 LPG cylinders and the registration of 44 First Information Reports (FIRs) against violators.
Joint Operation Amid Global Supply Concerns
The enforcement actions were conducted jointly by the Delhi Food Supplies Department and the Delhi Police over the past month. This coordinated effort comes in response to potential cylinder shortages triggered by the ongoing Iran-US conflict, which has created global supply chain uncertainties.
Authorities emphasized that these raids were part of a sustained initiative to maintain transparency within the supply system and ensure that essential commodities reach consumers without any disruption. Multiple locations across Delhi were targeted in this comprehensive operation.
Government Assurance on Stable Supply
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta addressed the situation on Wednesday, providing reassurances about the capital's fuel supplies. "Supplies of LPG, petrol, and diesel in Delhi are completely normal, stable, and sufficient despite the prevailing global geopolitical situation," Gupta stated confidently.
The Chief Minister confirmed that all gas agencies and bottling plants in Delhi maintain adequate stocks of LPG cylinders. Uninterrupted distribution is being ensured through multiple supply channels, with the government implementing robust monitoring mechanisms.
Daily Distribution and Delivery Metrics
Currently, Delhi's distribution system is delivering over 1.2 lakh LPG cylinders daily, which aligns perfectly with regular consumer demand patterns. The average delivery time continues to remain between 4-5 days, indicating that the supply chain is functioning efficiently despite the enforcement actions.
"The government is closely monitoring the entire supply system to ensure that consumers do not face any inconvenience or shortage," Gupta emphasized. "Meeting the needs of domestic LPG users remains our top priority."
Digital Booking and Authentication Systems
To streamline the refill process, consumers are being actively encouraged to book their LPG cylinders through various digital platforms. These include SMS services, Interactive Voice Response Systems (IVRS), WhatsApp messaging, and dedicated online portals.
Furthermore, authorities have implemented an OTP-based delivery authentication system to enhance both transparency and safety. This verification mechanism now covers over 90% of daily LPG deliveries, significantly reducing the potential for fraudulent activities.
Special Initiatives for Migrant Workers
Under the Free Trade LPG Scheme, 5-kilogram LPG cylinders are being made available to migrant workers at designated gas agencies. This initiative requires valid identity proof for access and aims to provide affordable cooking fuel options for transient populations.
In addition to this scheme, special camps and outreach drives are being conducted across all districts of Delhi to educate consumers about proper LPG usage and safety measures.
Addressing Consumer Complaints and Irregularities
Chief Minister Gupta confirmed that oil marketing companies are actively addressing consumer feedback and complaints. "Wherever instances of black marketing, hoarding, diversion, or other irregularities have been reported, strict action is being taken," she asserted.
The government's multi-pronged approach combines enforcement actions with consumer education and digital innovation to create a more transparent and reliable LPG distribution ecosystem in the national capital.
