Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma Launches Digital Census 2027 with Personal Self-Enumeration
In a landmark move to promote digital governance, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma successfully completed his self-enumeration for Census 2027 early on Wednesday morning. The event took place at his official residence in Aizawl at 6:30 AM, signaling the official start of the nationwide census exercise. This initiative underscores a significant shift towards enhancing public awareness and encouraging citizen participation through digital means.
Digital Portal Facilitates Historic Self-Enumeration
The self-enumeration was conducted using a newly introduced online portal, with assistance from officials of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation, the general administration department, and the directorate of census operations. This marks the first time in India's census history that a fully digital approach has been implemented, offering citizens the option to self-enumerate from the comfort of their homes.
Census 2027 will be executed in two distinct phases:
- Phase I: House listing and housing census, which began on April 1, 2026.
- Phase II: Population enumeration, scheduled for February 2027.
Key Timelines and Public Participation
The self-enumeration window is open from April 1 to April 15, 2026, allowing citizens across Mizoram to register online. Following this, the house listing and housing census will run from April 16 to May 15, 2026. This structured timeline aims to streamline data collection and ensure comprehensive coverage.
By initiating the process personally, CM Lalduhoma has set a powerful example for residents, highlighting the importance of embracing technology for national data initiatives. The move is expected to boost digital literacy and foster greater engagement in governmental processes.
