Chatra LPG Agency Under Scrutiny Following Violent Consumer Clash
The Chatra district administration has initiated a formal investigation into alleged irregularities and black marketing activities by a local LPG distribution agency. This decisive action comes just one day after a violent confrontation erupted between frustrated consumers and agency staff at a distribution point in Hunterganj.
Heated Argument Escalates into Physical Altercation
On Wednesday, a group of consumers, who had been waiting for hours to receive their LPG cylinders, engaged in a heated argument with employees of the Pratappur-based Indraprastha HP Gas Agency. The situation quickly deteriorated, with reports indicating that some staff members were assaulted during the scuffle. Local police promptly intervened, arriving at the scene to restore order and prevent further escalation of the conflict.
Consumer Allegations of Prolonged Neglect and Fraud
Consumers voiced severe grievances, alleging systemic failures in the distribution process. One consumer claimed, "Some of us have not received cylinders for six months to a year, yet our accounts show bookings and deliveries as completed. We are also being unjustly deprived of subsidies." Several beneficiaries further accused the agency staff of colluding to deliberately divert cylinders into the black market, exacerbating shortages for legitimate customers.
Agency Owner Denies All Wrongdoing
In response to these serious allegations, agency owner Kapil Paswan firmly denied any misconduct. He stated, "LPG distribution is being carried out strictly through OTP verification, ensuring transparency and accountability." Paswan also asserted that he had no knowledge of the reported assault on his staff, distancing himself from the violent incident.
District Administration Orders Comprehensive Inquiry
Taking cognizance of the clash and the accompanying allegations, District Supply Officer Neetu Singh on Thursday directed the block supply officer to conduct a thorough and detailed inquiry into the operations of LPG agencies across the district. Singh emphasized, "There is no shortage of LPG in the district. However, if any irregularity or black marketing is found, strict action will be taken against those responsible." She further urged consumers to immediately report any discrepancies in LPG distribution to the administration, reinforcing the commitment to address public concerns promptly.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in the supply chain of essential commodities in rural areas, prompting calls for enhanced oversight and accountability in distribution networks to prevent such conflicts in the future.
