Chatra District Administration Launches Comprehensive Summer Water Crisis Drive
The district administration of Chatra has initiated a proactive drive to combat the severe drinking water crisis anticipated during the upcoming summer months. This strategic campaign, officially launched on Wednesday, aims to ensure timely and efficient resolution of water-related issues across the entire district.
Drive Details and Leadership
Deputy Commissioner Ravi Anand spearheaded the rollout of this critical initiative. The programme is scheduled to run from April 24 to May 11, encompassing all 154 panchayats spread across 12 blocks. According to officials, the campaign will prioritize field-level surveys, immediate repairs, and rigorous monitoring to address water scarcity effectively.
Structure of Task Forces and Responsibilities
Block development officers (BDOs) have been designated as nodal heads for joint task forces. These teams include senior officials, circle officers, and technical staff. Their mandate involves visiting panchayats, engaging with local representatives and residents, identifying water-stressed areas, and resolving problems on the spot. Deputy Commissioner Anand emphasized that defunct hand pumps will be repaired within 48 hours, while major projects like deep boring must commence within 24 hours of approval.
Technical and Monitoring Mechanisms
The executive engineer of the drinking water and sanitation division has been appointed as the technical nodal officer, leading urgent interventions in sensitive zones. Officials are required to prepare ward-wise inventories of non-functional hand pumps, dried wells, and defunct water towers prior to inspections. For enhanced monitoring, the district has established a dedicated WhatsApp group titled "Chatra Water Task Force", where teams must upload geotagged photos and daily reports by 5 pm each day.
Grievance Redressal Systems
A district control room, operating under the additional collector, has been activated to streamline complaint management. Residents can report drinking water issues via mobile number 9117619352 or landline 06541-253219. Upon receipt, complaints will be forwarded to the relevant BDOs for swift action. Additionally, grievance redressal camps will be organized in various panchayats starting April 24 to facilitate direct interaction with locals.
This drive underscores the administration's commitment to mitigating the summer water crisis through coordinated efforts, technological integration, and community engagement, ensuring reliable access to drinking water for all residents in Chatra district.
