Buidco Upgrades Patna Ghats to Modern Concrete Structures Under Namami Gange Initiative

In a significant development for urban infrastructure in Bihar, the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (Buidco) has successfully completed the construction and transformation of three key ghats in Patna. The project, executed under the Namami Gange project, has converted Bhadra Ghat, Mahavir Ghat, and Nauzar Ghat from unpaved (kachcha) structures into fully paved, modern concrete facilities. This upgrade aims to address the long-standing difficulties faced by devotees and enhance the overall experience at these sacred sites along the Ganges River.

Enhanced Amenities and Safety Measures for Public Convenience

Buidco managing director Animesh Kumar Parashar emphasized the importance of quality and safety during a review on Thursday. He directed officials to ensure robust construction, implement proper barricading, and install high-capacity lighting arrangements. "Continuous monitoring is being carried out by the concerned officers to maintain high standards," Parashar stated, underscoring the corporation's commitment to delivering top-notch infrastructure. The three ghats are set to be handed over to the Patna Municipal Corporation soon, marking a milestone in local governance and public service enhancement.

Bhadra Ghat: A Spacious and Well-Equipped Attraction

  • A 565-metre-long promenade constructed for widening and beautification, providing ample space for visitors to stroll and enjoy the riverfront.
  • Modern amenities such as changing rooms, toilets, and bathing facilities, ensuring cleanliness and privacy for all users.
  • High-mast lighting illuminating the entire area, improving visibility and safety during evening hours and festivals.

Additional Ghats Developed for Chhath Mahaparv Celebrations

Recognizing the surge in devotees during the annual Chhath Mahaparv, Buidco has constructed extra concrete ghats at Mahavir Ghat and Nauzar Ghat. At Mahavir Ghat, two new ghats, each measuring 30 metres by 20 metres, have been built. Similarly, Nauzar Ghat now features two new paved ghats of the same dimensions. All locations are equipped with:

  1. Adequate lighting systems to ensure safety after dark.
  2. Sturdy barricading to manage crowds and prevent accidents.
  3. Proper sanitation arrangements, including waste management and clean water access, for public health and convenience.

This comprehensive upgrade not only modernizes the ghats but also supports the cultural and religious significance of events like Chhath, making them more accessible and enjoyable for the community. The project reflects a broader effort under the Namami Gange scheme to rejuvenate riverfront areas across India, combining infrastructure development with environmental and social benefits.
