The Bokaro administration has taken a firm stance against the rising number of unauthorised road blockades that have been disrupting traffic and daily life across the district. These blockades, often triggered by road accidents, local disputes, or other issues, have become a frequent occurrence, prompting authorities to order strict action against any such disruptions.
Recent Incidents and Impact
Officials reported that at least half a dozen major traffic congestions have occurred since May in areas such as Kasmar, Bermo, and Chandankyari. Protesters, frequently demanding compensation or pressing for local demands, have been blocking key roads, including national highways and state roads, as a quick method to draw attention. The presence of circle officers and police teams at these spots has often enabled agitators to pressure authorities into addressing their demands.
The growing frequency of these protests has caused severe inconvenience to commuters and worsened traffic congestion across the district. In response, the administration has directed sub-divisional officers, SDPOs, BDOs, circle officers, traffic police, and officers in charge of police stations to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards blockades and ensure smooth vehicular movement.
Official Statements and Measures
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha stated, "Protests and demonstrations carried out without permission will invite stringent action. The safety and convenience of residents, as well as travellers passing through Bokaro, remains a priority. Any attempt to disrupt public movement or damage public property will be dealt with firmly under applicable laws."
Superintendent of Police Nathu Singh Meena urged residents to use designated block- or district-level grievance redressal committees instead of resorting to disruptive protests. Officers also highlighted that such disruptions affect not only residents but also industrial operations.
Enhanced Surveillance and Legal Action
To strengthen the response, authorities have ordered videography, photography, and drone surveillance of such incidents. The administration also expressed concern over the spread of misleading information on social media and directed action under the IT Act against those circulating rumours. These measures aim to deter unauthorised blockades and ensure that public movement and industrial activities remain unaffected.
