Udupi: Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) attempted to stage a protest in Udyavar ahead of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's visit to the Kollur Sir Mookambika Temple on Friday. The protest was aimed at drawing attention to the proposed Mekedatu Project.
Protest Plans Foiled
Around 20 KRV activists, led by Praveen Shetty, gathered on the road at Balaipade in the morning to demonstrate against the Mekedatu issue. However, police swiftly intervened and took all of them into custody before they could begin their protest.
Security Measures
Udupi police had implemented stringent security measures to ensure no disruptions occurred during the visit of Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, who is a Z+ protectee. In addition to local police, approximately 40 personnel from Tamil Nadu police, including a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and a Superintendent of Police (SP), were part of the close protection team for the CM in Udupi.
CM's Itinerary
CM Vijay arrived at Mangaluru International Airport around 1:20 PM and proceeded to Kollur temple by road. This was his first visit to the temple after assuming office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
