Bhopal LPG Portal Crashes Amid Panic Bookings, Residents Struggle with Daily Cooking
A sudden surge of panic-driven bookings has caused Bhopal's LPG portal to stall completely, leaving countless households scrambling to manage their daily cooking needs. The system became largely unresponsive as distributors struggled to cope with an overwhelming backlog, prompting many residents to rely on alternative cooking methods while repeated attempts to place orders failed repeatedly.
Residents Face Cooking Challenges and Uncertainty
For residents across the city, the disruption turned routine daily activities into significant challenges. "Booking became impossible for several days as the portal kept showing persistent errors," said Garima Tomar, an IT professional from Arera Colony. "After returning from the office, cooking dinner without LPG was a real struggle. We tried using an induction stove temporarily, but frequent power cuts made it highly unreliable."
Sonia Kaur, a school teacher from TT Nagar, reported that her household had to revert to using a small traditional chulha. "It takes much longer and fills the entire kitchen with smoke. Switching to induction stoves suddenly isn't easy, especially with the rising electricity costs that we're all facing," she explained.
Anjali Rathore, a bank clerk from MP Nagar, highlighted that the biggest problem was the pervasive uncertainty. "We kept trying repeatedly to book the cylinder, but the portal consistently showed errors. Without any clear information on when it would work again, we were left wondering how long this situation would continue," she stated.
Distributors Cite Overwhelming Traffic and Rumors
LPG distributors in the city pointed to an unprecedented flood of bookings that overwhelmed the system's capacity. "The portal got completely flooded with overdue and panic bookings far higher than normal traffic volumes," said RK Gupta, a city-based LPG distributor. Another distributor, Deepak Sharma, added that rumors about possible supply issues prompted many consumers to place bookings simultaneously, directly causing the system to crash. "Bills could not be generated during the extended downtime, compounding the logistical problems," he noted.
The technical failure has exposed vulnerabilities in the digital infrastructure supporting essential services, raising concerns about preparedness for such spikes in demand. Residents continue to face difficulties as they navigate alternative cooking arrangements, with many expressing frustration over the lack of timely updates and solutions from authorities.
