Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Achieves Record Road Development Ahead of CWG 2030
In a significant infrastructure push ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has set a new benchmark by completing 8.45 lakh metric tonnes of road works across all seven zones during the 2025-26 financial year. This achievement marks the highest-ever road development recorded by the civic body, with work carried out between April 1, 2025, and January 26, 2026.
Historic Infrastructure Milestone
AMC officials have confirmed that this represents the first time in the corporation's history that such extensive road development has been undertaken simultaneously across all zones within a single financial year. The total road work is projected to reach approximately 9.50 lakh metric tonnes by the end of the financial year, demonstrating a systematic approach to urban mobility enhancement.
Zone-Wise Breakdown of Road Works
The road development has been distributed across Ahmedabad's seven zones with the following achievements:
- Central Zone: 30,000 metric tonnes
- East Zone: 1 lakh metric tonnes
- North Zone: 74,000 metric tonnes
- South Zone: 86,000 metric tonnes
- West Zone: 78,000 metric tonnes
- South-West Zone: 44,000 metric tonnes
- North-West Zone: 1.35 lakh metric tonnes
Additionally, the Road Project Department independently completed 2.51 lakh metric tonnes of road works, contributing to the overall record figure.
Five-Year Road Development Trend
The current year's achievement represents a substantial increase compared to previous years. Historical data reveals the following progression in road works:
- 2021-22: 5.51 lakh metric tonnes
- 2022-23: 7.45 lakh metric tonnes
- 2023-24: 7.77 lakh metric tonnes
- 2024-25: 7.60 lakh metric tonnes
While the city has maintained approximately 7 lakh metric tonnes of road works annually over the past five years, the current financial year shows a remarkable surge in development activity.
Strategic Vision for Urban Mobility
AMC officials emphasized that road development activities continue across multiple zones, with the projected year-end total of 9.50 lakh metric tonnes indicating a long-term vision for the city's infrastructure. This systematic approach aligns with preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, aiming to create world-class urban mobility in Ahmedabad.
The corporation's focused efforts demonstrate a commitment to transforming the city's transportation network, ensuring enhanced connectivity and improved infrastructure ahead of the international sporting event.
