In view of the rising temperatures, the Ahmedabad district collector's office and the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have arranged drinking water and set up sheds for heat relief at a total of 4,257 polling stations across 48 wards for the municipal elections.
Medical Kits Distributed
The health department has distributed 3,401 medical kits at the polling stations. These kits include essential medicines such as ORS, anti-emetics, antipyretics, and antibiotics, along with sufficient dressing materials.
ORS and Water Quality Measures
Considering the heatwave warning, ORS is available at every location. Water samples were taken from municipal schools included in polling stations across all zones to ensure the availability of clean drinking water.
Deployment of Medical Teams
From April 25 to April 28, teams of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff have been deployed at key locations such as dispatch centres, receiving centres, and counting centres to provide necessary medical care and manage heat-related issues. Additionally, on voting day, mobile medical vans as well as health and wellness centre medical teams, including doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff, have been instructed to be on duty in all zones from 7 am to 6 pm. They will provide immediate medical care with necessary medicines, first aid supplies, and dressing materials.
Coordination with Emergency Services
Coordination was made to ensure the presence of EMRI-108 teams in all zones of the city to provide health services. All urban health centres and community health centres have been instructed to remain operational on election day. The affiliated hospitals of the AMC Medical College will provide 24-hour service. Thirteen community health centres will offer 24-hour service, and 90 urban health centres will be operational from 9 am to 6 pm.
