Ranchi CEO Conducts Rigorous Review of Electoral Roll Accuracy in Jamshedpur
State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar undertook a comprehensive review of the electoral roll verification process in Jamshedpur on Monday. The inspection focused on the booth level officer (BLO) registers and sketch maps, known as Nazri Naksha, for randomly selected polling stations in both the Jamshedpur (East) and Jamshedpur (West) Assembly constituencies, which fall under the East Singhbhum district.
On-Ground Verification and Household Visits
Kumar personally visited several households to cross-verify the information recorded by BLOs in their registers with the actual voters residing at those addresses. This hands-on approach aimed to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the electoral data. District Electoral Officer and Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, along with other officials, were present during this detailed review session.
CEO Emphasizes BLO Responsibilities and Goals
During the review, CEO K Ravi Kumar issued clear directives to the BLOs, stressing their critical role in maintaining the integrity of the electoral rolls. "BLOs must work with the goal that no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral rolls and no ineligible person’s name is entered in the electoral roll," Kumar stated emphatically. He highlighted that BLOs are currently engaged in affixing informational stickers door-to-door as part of their outreach efforts.
Key Instructions for BLOs and Electoral Roll Management
Kumar provided specific guidelines to enhance the electoral roll management process:
- Voter Mapping: BLOs should identify and carry out the mapping of voters who were not mapped during the previous intensive revision of electoral rolls.
- List Preparation: They must prepare lists of absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate entries strictly as per the established rules.
- Authentication: These lists require authentication by the booth level agents of recognized political parties to ensure transparency and credibility.
This initiative underscores the administration's commitment to conducting fair and transparent elections by ensuring that voter lists are accurate, up-to-date, and free from discrepancies. The proactive measures aim to bolster public trust in the electoral process and facilitate smooth polling operations in the upcoming elections.
