Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a strong critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her election rallies in Bihar on Saturday, questioning the appropriateness of his language and accusing his government of attempting to buy women voters.
Sharp Criticism of PM's Language
Addressing enthusiastic crowds in Barari, Kadwa, and Purnia, the Congress MP expressed dismay at the Prime Minister's recent public statements. "I heard Modiji talking about 'katta, donali, goli, firauti, rangdari' at a public rally. Does this suit a Prime Minister?" she questioned during her Purnia address.
Priyanka Gandhi emphasized that such language was unbecoming of someone holding the country's highest office. "The PM has lowered the dignity of the post," she stated in Hindi, highlighting her concern about the tone and content of the Prime Minister's election speeches.
Accusations of Disconnect and Neglect
The Congress leader accused PM Modi of being distant from the common people, appearing only during election seasons. "The PM comes before the masses only during elections. When it is not election time, he is seen shaking hands with the Presidents of the US, China, and Israel," she alleged.
She further claimed that the Prime Minister had shown little concern for his own constituency of Varanasi, neglecting the people who elected him to office. This alleged disconnect formed a central theme of her criticism against the ruling government.
Women's Scheme Called 'Vote Bribe'
Turning to the NDA government's welfare initiatives, Priyanka Gandhi specifically targeted the Rs 10,000 scheme for women, characterizing it as nothing more than a political bribe. "Yes, take the money but don't vote for them lest your families remain divided," she advised women voters.
She contrasted this approach with her party's promises, stating, "Modiji has finished job opportunities, but we will provide jobs in your own towns so you can stay with your families." This message particularly resonated in regions affected by migration for employment.
Addressing Migration and Family Separation
At her Barari rally, the Congress leader painted a poignant picture of family separation caused by economic migration. "Wives fight their family's battles alone because their husbands are forced to migrate for work. We will change this. We will ensure that families stay together," she promised.
She attributed the reduction in job opportunities to the NDA government's privatization policies concerning public sector units, positioning the INDIA bloc as the solution to these employment challenges.
Broader Political Allegations
Priyanka Gandhi didn't hold back on other fronts either, attacking the state government over recurring paper leak scandals that she claimed have ruined the youth of Bihar. She framed the opposition's struggle against the BJP in historical terms, comparing it to Mahatma Gandhi's fight for citizens' rights.
"The battle that the Congress and the INDIA bloc are fighting today is the same battle that Mahatma Gandhi fought back then," she declared, accusing the Prime Minister of weakening both the Constitution and democratic processes.
In her final remarks, she alleged that the ruling alliance had started resorting to electoral malpractices due to fear of defeat, citing the alleged deletion of 65 lakh voters from Bihar's electoral rolls as evidence of their apprehension about the upcoming election results.
