Panchayat Samiti Polls: 22 Nominations in Mohali, Dera Bassi Sees Zero for 3rd Day
Mohali Panchayat Samiti Polls: 22 File, Dera Bassi Zero

The nomination process for the upcoming Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab's Mohali district saw a significant surge on its third day, even as one block continued to show a puzzling lack of participation. A total of 22 candidates submitted their nomination papers across the district on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Nomination Tally: Kharar Leads, Dera Bassi Absent

According to District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, the activity was concentrated in two blocks. The Kharar block received 16 nominations, while the Majri block saw 6 candidates file their papers. However, in a stark contrast, the Dera Bassi block registered zero nominations for the third consecutive day, raising questions about the local political dynamics there.

The detailed breakdown for Kharar block shows nominations came from various zones: one each from Cholta Khurd and Chadiala, two each from Bari Karoran, Mullanpur Garibdas, Maachhipur, and Majatri, and three each from Sotal and Ghoga zones. In Majri Block, the six filings included two from Manakpur Sharif and four from Jhandey Majra.

Final Day for Filing Nominations

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal emphasized that the nomination window, which opened on December 1, is now in its final phase. December 4 is the last day for prospective candidates to submit their forms. The submission will be accepted only during a specific four-hour window, from 11 am to 3 pm, at designated offices.

Prospective candidates must submit their forms at the following locations based on their block:

  • For Kharar Panchayat Samiti: SDM office, Kharar.
  • For Majri Panchayat Samiti: BDPO office, Majri.
  • For Dera Bassi Panchayat Samiti: SDM Office, Dera Bassi.

Moving Towards the Polls

The Deputy Commissioner urged all interested candidates to ensure timely submission, as the district moves closer to the crucial phase of these local body elections. The contrasting participation levels between blocks, especially the continued silence from Dera Bassi, sets an intriguing backdrop for the electoral process in SAS Nagar (Mohali) district. All eyes will now be on whether the final day sees a last-minute rush of nominations, particularly in the dormant Dera Bassi block.
