Mamata Banerjee Says BJP Looted Over 100 Seats, Promises Bounce Back
Mamata: BJP Looted Over 100 Seats, Will Bounce Back

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had 'looted' over 100 seats in the recently concluded assembly elections, asserting that her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), would bounce back strongly.

Allegations of Unfair Practices

Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata, Banerjee claimed that the BJP used unethical methods to secure victories in more than 100 constituencies. 'They have looted over 100 seats. We will bounce back,' she said, without providing specific evidence. The TMC chief expressed confidence that the party's workers and supporters would remain united and work towards regaining lost ground.

Election Outcome

The BJP made significant gains in West Bengal, winning 77 seats compared to its previous tally of three in 2016. However, the TMC retained power with 213 seats, reducing its majority from 211 in the previous assembly. Banerjee's allegations come amid ongoing tensions between the two parties, with the TMC accusing the BJP of attempting to destabilize the state government through central agencies.

Future Strategy

Banerjee outlined a three-pronged strategy for the TMC's revival: strengthening grassroots-level organization, reaching out to marginalized communities, and countering what she termed as the BJP's 'divisive politics.' She urged party workers to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing people's grievances.

Political Reactions

The BJP dismissed Banerjee's claims as baseless and sour grapes. State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said, 'She cannot accept defeat gracefully. The people of West Bengal have rejected her arrogance and misrule.' Political analysts view Banerjee's statement as an attempt to rally her support base ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the TMC aims to play a crucial role in the opposition alliance.

Banerjee's assertion of a bounce back reflects her determination to challenge the BJP's growing influence in the state. The coming months will test the TMC's ability to retain its stronghold amid allegations of corruption and administrative lapses.
