The Kolkata Police on Saturday issued a fresh transfer and posting order involving four inspectors across three police stations in the city.
Details of Transfers
In an official communication, the Kolkata Police commissioner informed the Bengal CEO that inspector Gautam Das of the Special Branch has been posted as Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalighat Police Station. Inspector Subrata Pandey from the south division has been transferred as OC of Alipore police station. In another reshuffle, inspector Uttam K Paik of the Special Branch has been appointed as additional OC at Kalighat Police Station. Meanwhile, inspector Chameli Mukherjee, who was serving as additional OC at Alipore Police Station, has been transferred to Ultadanga Women Police Station as OC.
Election Commission Deploys More Observers
The Election Commission also announced its decision to rope in 11 more police observers for phase II on April 29, when polling will be held for 142 seats in south Bengal. Earlier, the EC had earmarked 84 police observers and 294 general observers along with 100 expenditure observers in Bengal. Among the new observers, three are for South 24 Parganas, two for North 24 Parganas, and one each for Hooghly, Nadia, East Burdwan, Howrah, Kolkata South, and Kolkata North.
During the first phase, polling in seats was by and large peaceful, and hence, no repoll was needed, Bengal CEO Manoj Agarwal said. The Election Commission has also cleared new postings on Saturday after it suspended five officers of Diamond Harbour police district on Friday. While Avishek Majumdar is the new additional SP of Diamond Harbour, Bijoy Yadav has been made the SDPO. Partha Sarathi Ghosh is the new IC of Falta, while Prasenjit Kar has been made IC of Diamond Harbour. Rahul Kumar will be the OC of Usthi. Rahul Haldar has been posted as OC of Hingalganj, where the OC was suspended on Thursday.
