Ahead of the scheduled voting for municipal corporations across Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a significant early gain by securing four corporator seats unopposed across three different civic bodies. This early success marks a confident start for the party in the local elections.
Women Lead the Way in Kalyan-Dombivli
In the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) located in Thane district, the BJP's two unopposed victories were both claimed by women candidates. Rekha Chaudhary, a corporator with over ten years of experience, was declared elected without contest from Ward 18. Aasavari Kedar Navre secured an uncontested win from Ward 26, marking her debut in municipal politics, although her family has longstanding connections with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Their elections were confirmed after the nomination and scrutiny process concluded, leaving no rival candidates in the fray for their respective wards. Maharashtra BJP President Ravindra Chavan described these uncontested wins as a “supreme civic honour” granted by the electorate.
Leadership Hails Grassroots Trust
Commenting on Chaudhary's victory, Chavan stated that it reflected sustained grassroots work in the Kachore area over the past decade and the trust she had cultivated among local residents. “People have spoken through silence,” he remarked. The state leadership was promptly informed, with Chavan updating Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis via a video call.
In his response, CM Fadnavis acknowledged that while any electoral victory is significant, an unopposed win sends a particularly powerful message of public confidence. He emphasized that this trust must now translate into improved governance for the Kalyan-Dombivli region.
Wins Extend to Navi Mumbai and Dhule
The BJP's uncontested success was not limited to KDMC. The party also registered unopposed victories in two other municipal corporations.
- In the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, candidate Nitin Patil was elected unopposed from Ward 18-B. This followed the rejection of the lone rival candidate's nomination papers during the scrutiny phase.
- In the Dhule Municipal Corporation, Ujjwal Bhosale secured an uncontested win, establishing the party's presence in that civic body as well.
These early, unchallenged wins provide the BJP with a morale boost and a secured footing before the actual polling begins for the remaining seats across the state. The results underscore the party's organizational strength and candidate selection in these specific wards, where potential opponents either withdrew or failed the nomination criteria.
