Wayanad Youth Vanishes in Iran as Conflict Escalates, Family in Distress
The family of a 20-year-old youth from Wayanad, Kerala, is gripped by fear and uncertainty after losing contact with him for 25 days amid the escalating conflict in Iran. Fadusha Farhan, a native of Edayoorkunnu near Mananthavady, had traveled to Iran as part of an internship on a cargo vessel, but his whereabouts remain unknown since the West Asian crisis intensified.
Last Communication Before Conflict Erupted
Farhan's last contact with his family was on February 27, just one day before the conflict broke out in Iran. His mother, Raihanath, recounted that during this final communication, he mentioned the Malta-flagged cargo vessel Arucas had been loaded and was preparing to proceed to Turkey. Since then, all attempts to reach him via phone have failed, leaving the family in a state of anguish.
"We are not sure whether he is unable to contact us due to internet connectivity issues or something else," Raihanath expressed, highlighting the family's growing concerns. She added that when they contacted the shipping agency for information, the response was vague, with officials only stating that Farhan would be sent back to India once the situation stabilizes, without providing clear details about his current location or safety.
Another Youth Missing from Same Vessel
Compounding the distress, Raihanath revealed that another Indian youth, Jerin Joseph from Idukki, who was also interning on the same cargo vessel as Farhan, has similarly not contacted his family. This dual disappearance has heightened fears among both families, who are now anxiously awaiting any updates amidst the volatile geopolitical climate in the region.
The incident underscores the broader risks faced by Indian nationals abroad during international conflicts, particularly in high-tension areas like West Asia. As diplomatic efforts and military actions unfold, families back home are left grappling with uncertainty, hoping for a safe resolution and the swift return of their loved ones.
