UAE and US Leaders Address Regional Security Concerns in High-Level Call
In a significant diplomatic engagement, United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and United States President Donald Trump held a phone conversation to discuss pressing regional developments and their implications for global peace. The call, reported by Al Jazeera citing the UAE's state-run WAM news agency, focused on escalating tensions in the Middle East, with particular emphasis on security threats.
Condemnation of Iranian Aggressions and Solidarity Pledge
During the discussion, the two leaders reviewed what were described as "blatant and continuous Iranian aggressions" targeting the UAE and other nations in the region. These actions, which reportedly aim at civilians, civilian facilities, and infrastructure, were highlighted as violations of sovereignty and international laws. In response, President Trump strongly condemned the attacks and reaffirmed the United States' full support and solidarity with the UAE and regional countries in defending their territories, stability, and security.
UAE Security Crackdown on Hezbollah-Linked Network
Simultaneously, the UAE's state security service announced a major operation to dismantle a covert network operating within the country. According to Al Jazeera, citing WAM, this group was allegedly funded and directed by Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iran. The network operated under the guise of commercial activities, attempting to infiltrate the national economy and carry out actions that could undermine financial stability.
Authorities stated that the network functioned under "a pre-prepared strategic plan with foreign parties" linked to Lebanese Hezbollah and Iran, violating economic and legal systems to launder money, fund terrorism, and threaten national security. While the exact number or nationalities of those detained were not disclosed, an image shared on WAM's social media showed five blindfolded individuals in custody.
Escalating Crisis in Lebanon Amid Regional Tensions
The phone call and security operation occur against the backdrop of a worsening humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. Since Israeli attacks intensified on March 2, the death toll has tragically crossed 1,000, with at least 2,584 people injured. More than one million individuals have been displaced due to the ongoing escalation, highlighting the severe impact of regional conflicts on civilian populations.
This development underscores the interconnected nature of security challenges in the Middle East, where geopolitical tensions and militant activities continue to pose significant threats to peace and stability. The UAE-US dialogue and subsequent actions reflect a coordinated effort to address these complex issues through diplomatic and security measures.
