A serious train accident was narrowly averted on Saturday morning near Kumarbagh railway station in West Champaran district, Bihar. The incident occurred when the driver of the Bagaha–Patliputra Intercity Express spotted significant damage on the railway track and promptly applied emergency brakes, bringing the high-speed train to a halt just before the affected section.

The train was traveling from Bagaha to Patliputra at a high speed on a newly laid track. The driver noticed a broken and damaged portion of the rail ahead and acted swiftly to stop the train, preventing a possible derailment that could have led to a major tragedy. Jyoti Prakash Mishra, divisional railway manager (DRM) of the Samastipur railway division, stated that the incident happened on a newly laid track. "An investigation has been launched to ascertain whether there were lapses in construction, maintenance, or inspection," he said. "Such lapses are extremely serious and will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against those found responsible."
