The Tibetan government-in-exile has issued a strong condemnation against China for what it describes as a deliberate smear campaign using the Jeffrey Epstein files to tarnish the reputation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), based in Mcleodganj, Dharamshala, released an official statement on Friday expressing deep concern over the intensified attacks from Chinese state-run and affiliated media outlets.
Timing of Allegations Raises Suspicion
The CTA statement highlighted that the renewed smear campaign appears strategically timed, launching immediately after the Dalai Lama received global recognition through a Grammy award on February 1st. "These allegations, aimed at spreading misinformation and disinformation, were seemingly orchestrated to generate negative headlines and tarnish his reputation precisely when he was receiving international acclaim," the statement read.
Complete Denial of Any Epstein Connection
The Tibetan administration categorically denied any connection between the Dalai Lama and the controversial Epstein files. "The statement unequivocally affirmed that His Holiness never met Jeffrey Epstein, nor authorized any meeting or interaction with him by anyone acting on his behalf," the CTA emphasized. This denial comes despite widespread circulation of the allegations within China by parties described as having vested interests.
Official Investigation Finds No Evidence
After conducting a thorough examination of documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Central Tibetan Administration stated there was absolutely no evidence of any involvement by the Dalai Lama or his representatives with Jeffrey Epstein. "There was no evidence of any direct participation, confirmation, or acknowledgement by His Holiness the Dalai Lama — or by any representative acting on his behalf — in relation to Jeffrey Epstein," the investigation concluded.
Pattern of Recurring Smear Campaigns
The CTA noted that this represents another chapter in what it calls recurring smear campaigns against the Tibetan spiritual leader by Chinese media. Despite an official statement issued by the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on February 8th clearly denying any connection, Chinese media outlets have continued to propagate what the Tibetan administration describes as unfounded allegations.
The Tibetan government-in-exile views these actions as part of a broader pattern of misinformation campaigns aimed at undermining the Dalai Lama's global standing and influence. The statement serves as both a formal denial and a condemnation of what the administration perceives as politically motivated character assassination tactics.
