Major Infrastructure Boost for Kabaka-Puttur Railway Station in Mangaluru
A significant development project valued at Rs 2.9 crore has been sanctioned to upgrade passenger facilities at the Kabaka-Puttur railway station in Mangaluru, as announced by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta. This initiative aims to address long-standing infrastructure gaps and improve the commuting experience for thousands of travelers.
Details of the Approved Shelter Project
Under this newly approved scheme, a large shelter will be constructed on Platform No. 1 at the Kabaka-Puttur railway station. The current shelter, which measures only 531 square meters, is insufficient to accommodate passengers adequately, especially during peak hours and adverse weather conditions. The new shelter will cover an expansive area of 3,392 square meters, providing substantial relief and comfort.
The process of identifying the precise location for this construction has already been completed, and work is set to commence shortly. Once operational, this enhanced shelter will offer much-needed convenience, protecting passengers from intense summer heat and monsoon rains, thereby making train boarding safer and more comfortable.
Additional Proposals for Passenger Convenience
In addition to the shelter, there is a proposal to install two lifts for the Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) serving platforms No. 1 and 2. This project, estimated to cost Rs 1.3 crore, is designed to facilitate easy movement for all passengers, including the elderly and those with disabilities. The proposal is currently under review at the railway central office, and if approved, it will further modernize the station's amenities.
MP's Advocacy and Government Support
Capt Brijesh Chowta highlighted that he wrote to the general manager of South Western Railway in November 2024, emphasizing the urgent need for shelter extension due to passenger hardships during harsh weather. His advocacy played a crucial role in securing the necessary funding. On behalf of passengers and the railway users' association, the MP expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna, and the railway department for their support in approving this vital project.
Broader Advocacy for Early Childhood Development
Separately, MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has also raised concerns in the Lok Sabha regarding the empowerment of anganwadis and early learning centers. Under Rule 377, he pointed out that India has over 16.5 crore children aged 0-6 years, many of whom attend these institutions. However, there is a significant lack of awareness and solutions for mental health issues like ADHD and dyslexia, as well as learning deficiencies at this critical stage. Strengthening these centers is essential for safeguarding children's mental health and supporting their holistic development, he asserted.
This dual focus on infrastructure and social welfare underscores the MP's commitment to enhancing both public amenities and early childhood education in the region.
