Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a crucial telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, extending warm greetings for the auspicious occasions of Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz. This diplomatic exchange occurred against the backdrop of escalating tensions and military actions in the Middle East region.

In a detailed post shared on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi articulated a hopeful message for the festive season. "We expressed hope that this festive season brings peace, stability and prosperity to West Asia," Modi stated, underscoring the importance of harmony during these celebratory times.
The Prime Minister further addressed the volatile security situation, condemning attacks on critical infrastructure in the region. He highlighted that such assaults not only threaten regional stability but also pose significant risks to global supply chains. Modi reiterated the critical necessity of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring that international shipping lanes remain open and secure for uninterrupted trade and commerce.

Earlier on the same day, reports emerged of fresh military strikes conducted by the United States and Israel targeting Iran’s Natanz uranium-enrichment facility. According to Iranian state-linked media, including the Tasnim news agency, the site was hit in a joint attack. Authorities confirmed that there were no immediate signs of radioactive leakage and assured that nearby residents were not at risk.
This facility has been a focal point in previous rounds of US-Israeli operations, emphasizing its strategic importance in the region's geopolitical landscape.
Second High-Level Dialogue Since Conflict Escalation
This telephonic conversation marks the second instance of direct communication between the two leaders since the conflict intensified on February 28. Previously, on March 12, Prime Minister Modi had spoken with President Pezeshkian, expressing "deep concern" over the rising tensions.
In his earlier post on X, Modi detailed, "Had a conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, to discuss the serious situation in the region. Expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and the loss of civilian lives as well as damage to civilian infrastructure."
