Operation Sindoor Validates Southern Command's Multi-Domain Operational Readiness
Southern Army Commander Lt Gen Shiraj Seth has declared that Operation Sindoor served as a definitive proof of the Southern Command's full preparedness for multi-domain operations. Speaking at the Southern Command Investiture Ceremony in Ahmedabad on February 6 and 7, 2026, Lt Gen Seth emphasized that this operation not only showcased India's fortitude, perseverance, and resilience in conflicts with neighboring nations but also on the global stage.
Investiture Ceremony Honors Valor and Service
During the prestigious ceremony, Lt Gen Seth conferred awards upon 34 distinguished personnel for acts of exceptional valour, courage, and distinguished service to the nation. Additionally, thirty-three units received the GOC-in-C, Southern Command Unit Citation in recognition of their operational excellence and professional achievements. The event featured a ceremonial Guard of Honour and included the presentation of Veteran Achievers Awards to distinguished veterans for their outstanding contributions across diverse fields.
Strengthened Technical Capabilities Post-Operation
Lt Gen Seth detailed the rapid enhancement of technical capabilities following Operation Sindoor. Key inductions in 2025 included the first batch of Apache attack helicopters into the Southern Command of the Indian Army, alongside HAL-manufactured indigenous Prachand Light Combat Helicopters to bolster the rotary wing fleet. Furthermore, more regiments of the Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers have been operationalized, significantly augmenting the command's firepower.
New organizational structures have also been established, such as the Rudra Brigade, Bhairav Battalions, Ashni Platoons, Shaktimaan Regiment, and Divyastra batteries, reflecting a strategic evolution in force deployment and tactics.
Focus on Drone Warfare and Indigenous Systems
Highlighting the emphasis on modern warfare, Lt Gen Seth noted the large-scale induction of indigenous Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter-UAS systems under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. These systems provide enhanced capabilities to engage adversaries in varied ways and from long ranges. For Army Air Defence, numerous indigenous systems have been integrated, including Advance Gun and Shoulder Fired Missile Systems and Light Man Portable Radars.
Validation Through Exercises and Modernization
All new-generation equipment and technological upgrades have been rigorously validated through various military exercises and training drills. In 2025, the Southern Command executed the tri-services Exercise Trishul in collaboration with the Air Force and Navy. Sub-exercises like Akhand Prahar and Marujwala conducted in the Desert Sector at Jaisalmer validated innovative organizational structures such as the Rudra Brigade and Bhairav Battalion.
A display at the ceremony showcased cutting-edge weapons, equipment, and systems, aligning with the Army's modernisation and technology infusion efforts under the 'Decade of Transformation' initiative, underscoring a commitment to continuous improvement and strategic readiness.
