Noida Airport's March 28 Launch Spurs Major Infrastructure Upgrades in NCR
Noida Airport Launch Drives Infrastructure Projects in NCR

Noida International Airport Set to Open, Triggering Infrastructure Overhaul

With the Noida International Airport scheduled to commence operations on March 28, the government has unveiled a series of ambitious infrastructure initiatives designed to streamline travel from National Capital Region (NCR) cities and adjacent western Uttar Pradesh districts. These projects aim to alleviate congestion and provide seamless access to the new aviation hub.

Key Road Projects to Enhance Airport Connectivity

A significant development is the approval of a 31-kilometre link road by the Union Cabinet on March 10, with a revised budget of Rs 3,631 crore. This road will connect the airport to the Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh-Sohna segment of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Notably, the seven-kilometre Noida section is already complete and integrated with the Yamuna Expressway via a loop, offering direct airport access. The remaining Haryana stretch is projected for completion by 2027.

Previously, vehicles headed to the airport used the Jewar toll plaza and Sikandrabad-Jewar road, a route that will primarily serve cargo traffic once the new link road is finished.

Expressway Interchanges and Elevated Roads in Progress

Another critical project is a cloverleaf interchange between the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway near Jaganpur-Afzalpur. Initially conceived in 2019, it faced delays due to land disputes, farmer protests, and cost escalations. Now rescheduled for completion by June 2027, this interchange will benefit travelers from Palwal, Panipat, Meerut, and Greater Noida by providing direct airport access.

In Noida, local authorities are developing a 1.4-kilometre elevated road from Sector 94, linking the Mahamaya Flyover to the Yamuna Pushta road. This aims to decongest the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Additionally, a separate 5.7-kilometre Chilla Elevated Road, running parallel to the Mayur Vihar-Noida link up to Mahamaya Flyover, is 46% complete and expected to be operational by 2027.

Future Rail Corridor and Current Travel Routes

Looking ahead, a proposed Ghaziabad-Noida-Jewar RRTS corridor promises a high-speed rail alternative for road travel. However, this project is currently on hold, with its detailed project report awaiting central government approval.

Until these infrastructure enhancements are fully realized, vehicles traveling to the Noida International Airport will rely on the 165-kilometre Yamuna Expressway, which connects Pari Chowk in Greater Noida to Agra via Jewar. Commuters from Noida and Delhi will navigate via the Chilla border, DND Flyway, or Kalindi Kunj, proceed along the 25-kilometre Noida Expressway, and merge onto the Yamuna Expressway at Pari Chowk. Estimated travel time from Noida Film City in Sector 16A to the airport is approximately 90 minutes.
