MP and UP Unite to Script New Model of Governance and Religious Tourism

In a significant move to strengthen inter-state cooperation, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav declared on Tuesday that Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh will jointly develop a pioneering model of good governance and religious tourism. This initiative draws profound inspiration from their shared cultural heritage and ongoing development projects.

Economic Growth Through Tourism and Product Branding

Speaking at the inauguration of the MP-UP Cooperation Convention-2026 in Varanasi, Yadav emphasized that the two states will explore substantial economic growth opportunities. This will be achieved through a multi-faceted approach focusing on religious tourism, the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, and the branding, marketing, and export of Geographical Indication (GI) tag products.

The convention aims to develop a mega religious tourism circuit, integrating sacred sites such as Kashi, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Mathura, Chitrakoot, Ujjain, and Omkareshwar across both states. This circuit is expected to boost tourism revenue and foster cultural exchange.

Embracing 'Development with Heritage'

Yadav articulated that the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are wholeheartedly embracing the mantra of 'development with heritage'. This joint effort is fostering a shared culture of good governance and religious tourism, which is anticipated to:

  • Strengthen the ties between the two states
  • Pave new avenues for public welfare
  • Enhance regional economic stability

Prior to the conference, CM Yadav visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple and toured the temple corridor, underscoring the spiritual significance of the collaboration.

Praise for Governance and Preparations for Simhastha-2028

The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister praised Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath for establishing a paradigm of good governance in the state, with a steadfast focus on development alongside law and order. In view of the upcoming Simhastha-2028 in Ujjain, Yadav noted that experiences from Varanasi would be invaluable.

Studying the arrangements of the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh 2025 and the crowd management model at Kashi Vishwanath Dham will significantly aid in the better management of the Simhastha Kumbh, ensuring safety and efficiency during the massive event.

Signing of MoUs and Highlighting Key Projects

Yadav's visit witnessed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust and the Mahakaleshwar Temple Trust, as well as between the two states for the promotion of ODOP products. These agreements are set to enhance religious and economic synergies.

He also highlighted several joint projects under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance:

  1. The Ken-Betwa River Linking Project has commenced to benefit the Bundelkhand region by providing drinking and irrigation water facilities.
  2. Both states are collaboratively working on a 2,000MW solar energy project in Morena, promoting sustainable energy solutions.

Platform for Industrial and Economic Collaboration

The MP-UP convention is designed to provide a shared platform for showcasing and enhancing:

  • Industrial capacities
  • Traditional crafts
  • ODOP and GI tag products
  • Agriculture and food products
  • Investment opportunities
  • Tourism potential

Yadav reiterated that his government is giving top priority to industry and investment activities, aiming to drive economic growth and job creation.

Support from UP Ministers and Future Prospects

Earlier in the event, UP MSME Minister Rakesh Sachan welcomed Yadav and presented the growth story of MSMEs over the nine years of the Yogi government. UP Industrial Development, Export, and Investment Promotion Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi expressed optimism that the conference would prove to be a milestone for cooperation in the ODOP and MSME sectors.

This alliance between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh marks a strategic step towards regional development, leveraging their rich cultural assets and economic potentials to create a sustainable model of progress and cooperation.
