India Summons US Envoy Over Vessel Attacks, Flags Security

The Ministry of External Affairs has once again summoned United States Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks to lodge a formal protest over recent attacks on commercial vessels off the coast of Oman.

The US envoy was called in at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi by the Additional Secretary for Americas to discuss the growing concerns over maritime security incidents involving ships operating in the region. On June 11, a vessel carrying around 20 Indian crew members came under attack yet again while operating near Oman, raising serious concerns over the safety of seafarers.

In an earlier incident involving an attack on the Palau-flagged MT Settebello on June 10, three Indian seafarers were initially reported missing. They were later confirmed dead. The incident has further escalated diplomatic engagement and raised serious questions over maritime security.
