China Commits $200,000 in Humanitarian Aid to Iranian Red Crescent Society
In a significant diplomatic move, China has announced it will provide the Iranian Red Crescent Society with humanitarian aid valued at $200,000. This decision was confirmed by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a press briefing on Friday, as reported by China Daily.
Condemnation of Civilian Attacks and Call for Peace
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun strongly condemned indiscriminate attacks targeting civilians and non-military installations in the ongoing West Asia conflict. He emphasized China's commitment to maintaining open communication channels with all parties involved to de-escalate tensions and restore stability in the region.
Addressing the media, Jiakun stated, "We will continue to strengthen communication with all relevant parties, including those directly involved in the conflict, and play a constructive role in easing tensions and restoring peace in the Middle East."
Criticism of US and Israel Amid Peace Talks
Further elaborating on China's stance, Jiakun revealed that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has criticized the United States and Israel for alleged violations of international law, even as peace negotiations with Iran continue. This criticism underscores Beijing's assertive position in the complex geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.
Concerns Over Strait of Hormuz and Global Trade
Prior to this announcement, China expressed deep concern regarding the functional blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global energy supplies and trade. The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on "relevant parties" to immediately cease military operations to prevent further escalation.
Guo Jiakun highlighted, "The Strait of Hormuz and nearby waters are vital routes for international goods and energy trade. Ensuring the safety and stability of this region serves the common interests of the global community."
Urgent Appeal for De-escalation
China has urged all conflicting parties, particularly the US, Israel, and Iran, to prioritize de-escalation efforts. The spokesperson warned that continued turmoil could have severe repercussions on the global economy, stressing the need for immediate action to halt hostilities.
Reiterating Beijing's position, Guo added, "The pressing priority now is for relevant parties to stop military operations at once, avoid further escalation and spread of tensions, and prevent regional turmoil from having a larger impact on global economic growth."
