Canadian High Commissioner Holds Strategic Meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister
In a significant diplomatic engagement, Canadian High Commissioner to India, Christopher Cooter, met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Wednesday. The meeting focused on deepening bilateral relations and exploring concrete avenues for Canada's involvement in the state's economic and technological advancement.
Elevating India-Canada Trade and Investment Ties
High Commissioner Cooter emphasized the potential to elevate India-Canada trade and investment relations to unprecedented levels, with Uttar Pradesh positioned as a central hub for investment and innovation. He commended Chief Minister Adityanath for the state's remarkable development trajectory over the past nine years.
"Uttar Pradesh has demonstrated significant progress in infrastructure development, policy reforms, and governance in recent years, emerging as a reliable and attractive destination for global investors," Cooter stated during the discussions.
Key Sectors for Expanded Cooperation
The Canadian envoy expressed strong interest in expanding collaboration across multiple high-potential sectors, including:

During the meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended a formal invitation to Canadian companies to invest in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the state's conducive business environment, industrial growth momentum, and progressive policy reforms. He cited specific examples of the state's industrial capabilities, including the Defence Industrial Corridor and the BrahMos project.
"The Uttar Pradesh government is ensuring a transparent, stable, and industry-friendly policy environment, and will provide all necessary institutional support to accelerate technology, skill, and innovation-based collaboration with Canada," Adityanath assured.

Both sides reached a consensus to further strengthen their partnership across three primary areas:
