Pune Airport's New Sleep Pods and Luggage Lockers Provide Essential Relief for Late-Night Travelers

Flyers arriving in Pune during the early morning hours or enduring lengthy layovers now have a convenient new option for rest and luggage security. Located just a few metres from the airport, the AeroMall has introduced paid sleep pods and locker facilities in coordination with airport officials. These amenities have quickly gained traction, achieving nearly 60% occupancy in their initial days of operation.

Addressing the Red-Eye Flight Challenge

According to officials, such services are particularly relevant in cities like Pune where red-eye flights are abundant. "There are 11 single-occupancy pods, of which three are exclusively reserved for women," explained AeroMall vice-president Y S Rajput. "Designed to ensure privacy, comfort and security, these pods provide a convenient option to passengers seeking short-duration rest without opting for expensive hotel stays."

The pricing structure makes these pods accessible for various travel needs. A two-hour stay costs Rs 599, while three hours is priced at Rs 799. For longer durations, six hours costs Rs 1,399 and a 12-hour stay is available for Rs 1,999.

Comprehensive Amenities for Modern Travelers

Beyond the sleeping accommodations, the facility addresses another common traveler concern: luggage security. "Considering that many passengers travel with luggage, locker facilities have been introduced at affordable hourly rates," Rajput noted.

Each pod comes equipped with a television set, while the overall facility includes a working area, meditation room, washrooms, and small in-pod lockers for valuables like phones and wallets. Several add-on features enhance the experience, including hot beverages, massage chairs, and virtual reality experiences.

Positive Early Feedback from Users

Handewadi working professional Maithili Hansa recently utilized the service during travel to Guwahati and described it as commendable. "My flight was at 2am but I reached the airport at 7pm because getting transport in the wee hours is difficult and unsafe," she explained. "I was going around the AeroMall when I saw the service and used it to take a short nap because I had worked all day. I used the service for around three hours, got recharged, and then proceeded for check-in. The experience was pleasant."

Frequent flyer and business executive Pravesh Jain suggested that airport authorities should promote the facility through multiple channels. "Given Pune's high volume of flights, especially from 11pm to 4am, the service has a strong potential to become increasingly popular," he observed.

Expanding Airport Connectivity

Airport director Santosh Dhoke revealed that Pune airport has been allocated 15 additional flight slots, operational from May 1. This increases the total number of slots from 220 to 235.

"Cities like Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mangaluru, Patna, Solapur and Varanasi will get connected to Pune," Dhoke stated. "These additions are expected to boost tourism, trade and regional integration. The airport is currently connected to four important regional destinations - Nanded, Kishangarh, Sindhudurg and Jalgaon. These RCS (Regional Connectivity Scheme) routes are instrumental in enhancing last-mile connectivity and promoting balanced regional development."

The combination of expanded flight options and new passenger amenities positions Pune airport as an increasingly traveler-friendly hub, particularly for those navigating unconventional travel hours.
