Every week, the brothers embark on an early morning journey that has become a cherished ritual. They start their ride from the western suburbs of Goregaon and Malad, cruising all the way into South Mumbai. Rajev Paul describes these rides as a time when the city reveals a different character. The roads are quiet, the air is cool, and the bustling metropolis is seen in a completely new light. He emphasizes the deep connection formed not just with the machine but also with the riding companion, advocating that everyone should try exploring their city on a bicycle or motorcycle to truly see it as it's meant to be seen.
From Childhood Cycles to 'Double Trouble'
The foundation of this passion was laid in their early years. Rajev recalls starting with little cycles as kids, which soon evolved into a mischievous phase. They would secretly take their father's scooter for quick spins when he wasn't around, with Rakesh often being the more adventurous one, eager to take out the bike or even the car when their father was out of town.
Rakesh remembers a pivotal moment that cemented their interest. Their parents made a promise: "When you pass, we'll buy you a bike." This became a powerful motivator. In their teenage years, the brothers were known for their identical looks and style. They wore matching clothes and even proudly labeled their bikes with the phrase "double trouble," a testament to their inseparable and spirited partnership.
The Evolution of Their Two-Wheeled Journey
Their journey through various bikes reads like a timeline of automotive enthusiasm in India. After their initial cycles, their first proper motorcycle was the TVS Supra. Rajev notes with pride that it was the only white Supra in their hometown of Ajmer at the time. This was followed by the iconic Yamaha RX 100, a favorite of many riders from that era.
The love for powerful machines continued to grow. Rakesh later purchased a Royal Enfield, which he customized beautifully and rode extensively across Mumbai. Today, Rajev expresses a particular fondness for taking out Harley-Davidsons and Royal Enfields, drawn to their sheer power, superior ride quality, and that classic, unmistakable thumping sound of the engine.
