The Mizoram Tourism Department officially launched the two-day Tlaizawng Paradise festival this Tuesday, marking a significant push to spotlight the state's scenic border areas. The event was held at the picturesque Tuivai Bridge, close to Phuaibuang village, which sits adjacent to the Manipur border.
Inauguration by State Leadership
Lalbiakzama, the Speaker of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, performed the inauguration ceremony. He was joined by Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, senior officials from the tourism department, and key community leaders from Phuaibuang and Luangpawn villages, alongside a gathering of visitors.
In his inaugural address, Speaker Lalbiakzama expressed his satisfaction with the selection of Phuaibuang as the festival venue. He emphasized that the initiative is a conscious effort to draw tourists by leveraging the region's untapped natural beauty and resources. He also underscored the importance of warm hospitality and the critical role of unity and cooperation among local communities in making such tourism-driven projects a success.
Grand Angling Competition Steals the Show
A major highlight of this year's festival was the introduction of a large-scale angling competition. Organized along the flowing waters of the Tuivai river, the contest was carefully held outside the designated fish sanctuary area to ensure ecological balance. The novel event proved to be a massive draw, attracting approximately 600 enthusiastic participants from the region and beyond.
Symbolism and Scenic Charm
The festival's name, "Tlaizawng," is the Mizo word for cherry blossom. It was chosen to symbolise the pristine and captivating scenic charm that the event aims to showcase to the wider world. This festival is a core part of the state government's broader strategy to promote Mizoram as a prime tourism destination by highlighting its unique natural attractions and fostering community-based tourism.
