Kankaria Lakefront Sees 1.24 Crore Visitors in 3 Years

Ahmedabad's iconic Kankaria Lakefront has solidified its status as a premier recreational hub, drawing an impressive footfall of approximately 1.24 crore (12.4 million) visitors over the last three years, according to data released by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). This massive influx underscores the lakefront's immense popularity among locals and tourists alike.

A Year-by-Year Breakdown of Visitor Numbers

The AMC official provided a detailed annual breakdown, highlighting consistent high traffic. The 2023-24 financial year saw the highest attendance, with over 45.52 lakh (4.55 million) visitors enjoying the facilities. The following year, 2024-25, maintained strong numbers with more than 42.53 lakh (4.25 million) visitors. The current year has already witnessed a robust flow, with over 36.34 lakh (3.63 million) people visiting the lakefront just until November 2024.

What Makes Kankaria Lakefront a Major Attraction?

The official attributed this sustained popularity to the diverse range of family-friendly amenities available at the site. It is the variety of attractions that makes it a centre of attraction for all age groups. Key facilities include:

  • Balvatika (Children's Garden) and various rides for young visitors.
  • The nostalgic Toy Train that circles the lake.
  • Nagina Wadi, a picturesque island garden.
  • The on-site zoo offering a glimpse of wildlife.
  • Evening entertainment through the Laser Light Show.
  • A dedicated and vibrant food zone catering to diverse tastes.

Economic and Tourism Impact of the Footfall

The significance of these visitor numbers extends beyond mere recreation. The official emphasized that the increased footfall, particularly during the annual Kankaria Carnival, provides a significant boost to the city's tourism sector. This large-scale event and the year-round attraction drive substantial economic activity, benefiting local vendors, hospitality services, and the broader urban economy. The lakefront's success story is a key component of Ahmedabad's cultural and tourism identity.
