Delhi Government to Launch Double-Decker Tourist Buses This Month
In a significant move to boost tourism and enhance the sightseeing experience for both international and domestic visitors, the Delhi government is set to launch double-decker buses later this month. These buses will connect major heritage and cultural landmarks across the national capital, providing a seamless and immersive travel option.
Connecting Key Heritage Sites
Senior officials have confirmed that the new tourist circuit will cover prominent attractions, including the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, National War Memorial, Bharat Mandapam, the new Parliament complex, Kartavya Path, and Dilli Haat. This initiative is part of a broader plan to present the Central Vista and its adjoining landmarks as an integrated tourist experience, highlighting India's democratic institutions and modern heritage.
Initial Fleet and Operations
Initially, the route will operate with one double-decker bus and two electric buses. The open-top double-decker bus is designed to offer elevated, panoramic views of key sites, making sightseeing more engaging and memorable. Officials have also revealed that evening tours are being planned, with the route largely finalized to maximize visitor convenience and enjoyment.
Electric and Sustainable Transport
The electric double-decker bus, built by a private manufacturer, has been provided under a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. It was previously stationed at the Okhla depot under the transport department before being handed over to the tourism department. This move aligns with efforts to promote sustainable, electric public transport in the city, reducing environmental impact while enhancing tourism infrastructure.
Launch and Future Plans
The launch is likely to coincide with the first anniversary of the current Delhi government, adding a celebratory element to the initiative. It follows Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's budget announcement, which outlined plans to develop a new tourist circuit focused on national landmarks.
