Tata Group-owned Air India has issued an official travel advisory for its passengers, warning of likely disruptions to its flight operations due to severe fog conditions expected across several airports in northern India. The advisory was issued on Saturday, 27 December 2025.
Expected Impact on Key Northern Airports
The airline specifically highlighted that airports in the northern region, including Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Varanasi, are expected to witness significant flight disruptions. This is due to forecasts of dense fog and severely reduced visibility in these areas on the morning of Sunday, 28 December 2025.
In a recent post, Air India stated, "Dense fog with reduced visibility is forecast for parts of northern India, including cities like Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Varanasi, tomorrow morning. This may impact flight operations to and from these cities." The advisory underscores the operational challenges that low visibility poses for take-offs and landings.
Air India's Proactive Measures and Passenger Guidance
Air India assured travelers that it has initiated proactive steps to minimise the impact of the adverse weather. The company stated that its preparations include crew readiness, aircraft readiness, station readiness, and detailed scheduling and monitoring plans to handle any potential disruptions effectively.
"We have taken proactive steps to minimise disruptions. However, in the event of unexpected delays, diversions, or cancellations, please rest assured that our ground colleagues remain available to assist you," the airline said in its official communication.
What Passengers Need to Do
The airline has issued clear instructions for passengers scheduled to fly on Sunday, 28 December 2025:
- Check Flight Status: Passengers are strongly advised to check the latest status of their flight online before leaving for the airport.
- Allow Extra Time: Due to potential road travel delays and longer airport processing times caused by the fog, passengers should keep extra time in hand for their journey to the airport.
"If you are flying with us tomorrow, we recommend checking your flight status here before heading to the airport and allowing extra time for your journey," Air India advised.
The airline also extended an apology for any inconvenience caused by the weather-related disruptions, thanking passengers for their patience and understanding. Travelers facing issues are encouraged to seek immediate assistance from Air India's ground staff at the airport.
