UPSRTC Deploys 270 Buses, 9 Electric Vehicles for Magh Mela 2024
270 UPSRTC Buses for Magh Mela from Kanpur to Prayagraj

In a major move to facilitate pilgrims, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has finalized extensive arrangements for the upcoming Magh Mela in Prayagraj. With the significant religious gathering set to commence on January 3, the corporation's Kanpur region is deploying a massive fleet to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for devotees.

Massive Fleet Deployment for 24/7 Connectivity

The core of the plan involves operating 270 roadways buses from the Kanpur region directly to the mela grounds in Prayagraj. Adding a green initiative to the effort, Kanpur City Transport Services Limited (KCTSL) has dispatched 9 electric buses to join the service. According to Pankaj Tiwari, the assistant regional manager of the Major Salman Interstate Bus Terminal, buses will depart at frequent intervals of every 5 to 10 minutes, with transport services running round the clock.

In a relief to passengers, Tiwari confirmed that no additional mela surcharge will be levied. Conductors will collect fares as per regular bus rates. The primary hub for all these operations will be the Major Salman Interstate Bus Terminal (Jharkatti) in Kanpur. To streamline operations and enhance convenience, departures have been organized from multiple depots including Maati Depot (Kanpur Dehat), Fatehpur, and Unnao Depot.

Special Shuttle Service and Enhanced Safety Checks

Beyond the long-distance buses, the UPSRTC has a special provision for the final leg of the pilgrimage. A fleet of 50 special shuttle buses will operate within Prayagraj. These shuttles are designed to pick up and drop devotees from the city's outer stands to the nearest points of the Sangam area. This initiative specifically aims to assist elderly pilgrims and children, sparing them from long walks.

Emphasizing passenger safety and comfort, the transport corporation is conducting rigorous checks on all vehicles. Special attention is being given to essential components including:

  • Fog lamps and headlights for safe travel in winter conditions.
  • Horns and window catchers for functionality and security.
  • Seat conditions and overall cleanliness of the buses.

Comprehensive Passenger Support at Terminals

Preparations are not limited to the buses on the road. At the Major Salman Interstate Bus Terminal itself, authorities are setting up additional counters and help desks. These facilities are intended to manage the expected surge of passengers, provide information, and resolve any queries swiftly, ensuring a hassle-free start to the pilgrims' journey.

With these comprehensive measures, the UPSRTC aims to provide a reliable, affordable, and safe transportation ecosystem for the thousands of devotees traveling from Kanpur and surrounding regions to participate in the sacred Magh Mela at Prayagraj.
