A tragic sequence of events, stemming from a dispute during a honeymoon, has resulted in the deaths of a newlywed couple in separate locations and a critical suicide attempt by the mother-in-law. The incident has sent shockwaves through Bengaluru and Nagpur, prompting police investigations across two states.
From Honeymoon to Heartbreak: The Dispute That Sparked the Tragedy
The couple, recently married in a lavish ceremony in Bengaluru, had embarked on their honeymoon to Sri Lanka. The trip, however, was cut short and they returned to India on December 21. The reason, according to sources, was a series of disputes that erupted after the 26-year-old husband allegedly discovered details about his wife's past relationship.
Back in Bengaluru, the situation deteriorated further. The young woman is reported to have faced persistent humiliation and mistreatment from her husband and in-laws. Relatives indicated that she resisted the idea of divorce due to concerns about family honour, despite the alleged harassment. This ongoing torment reportedly pushed her to take the extreme step. The woman died by suicide in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Protests, Flight, and a Second Tragedy
The woman's death triggered immediate outrage. Her parents and relatives staged protests outside her husband's residence in Bengaluru, demanding immediate arrests. Following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) related to her death, the husband, along with his mother and brother, fled the city and travelled to Nagpur in Maharashtra.
The chain of devastation continued. A day after his wife's death, on Friday, the husband also died by suicide in Nagpur. In a further tragic turn, his mother attempted to end her life at a relative's home in Nagpur. She was rescued and remains hospitalised in critical condition.
Families Shattered and Cross-State Probe
Reacting to the horrific turn of events, the deceased woman's mother expressed a mix of grief and grim resolution. "They realised their mistakes," she said. "My daughter showed him so much love; he couldn't have lived after her death."
The case now involves police authorities in both Karnataka and Maharashtra. They are investigating the circumstances that led to the woman's alleged harassment, the subsequent suicides, and the attempted suicide. The incident highlights severe familial and societal pressures, leaving two families utterly devastated and a community searching for answers.
