Vantangiya Women Transform, Walk Ramp with Confidence

Vantangiya Women Shine on Ramp, From Forest Dwellers to Confident Performers

Women from the Vantangiya community in Gorakhpur are walking the ramp with newfound confidence. They are drawing applause across Uttar Pradesh. This marks a dramatic shift from their past lives.

These women once lived in forest settlements. They faced deprivation of basic identity documents like Aadhaar and voter IDs. Their transformation tells a larger story of social inclusion and empowerment.

Driving Forces Behind the Change

The Yogi Adityanath government's Mission Shakti initiative plays a key role. Sustained efforts from Supreme Court advocate Sugam Singh Shekhawat also drive this change. Shekhawat, a postgraduate from Gorakhpur, has mentored these women closely.

He trained them in ramp walking techniques. Shekhawat helped build their self-confidence from the ground up. His guidance turned marginalized forest dwellers into poised performers.

Showcasing Talent Across Events

Since January 2022, Vantangiya women have showcased their talent at numerous events. Their performances include:

  • Gorakhpur Mahotsav
  • Agra Mahotsav
  • Ayodhya's Sawan Jhula Mahotsav
  • G20 cultural events in Kashi
  • Programmes in Mathura
  • Maharajganj Mahotsav

These platforms provided them visibility and recognition. Each event celebrated their journey and skills.

Special Show at Gorakhpur Mahotsav

The ongoing Gorakhpur Mahotsav featured a special costume show titled 'Shagun Ki Raat'. This show depicted traditional elements through a modern fashion narrative. It blended diverse musical influences seamlessly.

The music included Kashmiri, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Spanish, French, and Hindi tunes. Delhi-based Laxmi Creation designed the costumes. Professional makeup came from Lakme and L'Oréal teams.

Participants ranged in age from five to seventy-five years. This wide age range made the presentation truly unique. Actor-MP Ravi Kishan Shukla is expected to attend the finale event.

The show highlights how fashion can bridge cultural gaps. It empowers communities to share their heritage with pride.
