MMC Sweeper Forges Signature in Birth Registration Case

A sweeper employed with the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) and posted in its births and deaths cell has been booked for allegedly forging the signature of the chief officer of the municipality and misusing official stamps to process a delayed birth registration case.

Details of the Alleged Offence

Mahesh Galatge, the accused, has been accused of preparing a non-availability certificate, a document typically required in delayed birth registration cases. He allegedly forged the signature of chief officer Madhu Narvekar and affixed official MMC stamps without authorisation.

Complaint and FIR

Narvekar lodged the complaint with Margao town police, following which an FIR was registered under Sections 336(2), 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, which pertain to forgery and the use of forged documents.

The alleged offence took place prior to June 1. Further investigation is under way.
