Historic Procession Honors Sikh Guru's Sacrifice
The city of Amritsar witnessed a deeply spiritual and historic event on Monday as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) organized a majestic Nagar Kirtan to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The religious procession created an atmosphere of devotion and reverence throughout the holy city.
The Sacred Journey Begins
Following the traditional Ardas prayer ceremony, the Nagar Kirtan commenced under the leadership of the Panj Piare, the five beloved ones who hold significant importance in Sikh tradition. The ceremony saw Giani Balwinder Singh, the respected Granthi of the Golden Temple, perform the installation of the Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the beautifully decorated palanquin.
The procession began its sacred journey from the revered Sri Akal Takht Sahib and concluded at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, tracing a path filled with spiritual significance. Throughout the route, devoted members of the Sangat gathered at various locations to welcome the procession and offer their heartfelt respects to Guru Sahib.
Community Participation and Ceremonial Events
The Nagar Kirtan saw massive participation from devotees representing all sections of the community. The procession was notably enriched by the presence of traditional gatka groups demonstrating martial arts and band parties providing devotional music, creating a vibrant and spiritually charged atmosphere.
In a parallel ceremony, the SGPC conducted the Bhog ceremony of Akhand Paath Sahib at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, dedicated to honoring the ninth Sikh Guru's supreme sacrifice. According to Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, manager of the Golden Temple, the final Bhog of Sri Akhand Paath Sahib will be performed on November 25 at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, followed by a Gurmat Samagam spiritual gathering.
