President Droupadi Murmu is set to embark on a significant one-day visit to the twin industrial hubs of Jamshedpur and Adityapur in Jharkhand on December 29. This marks her first trip to the city since assuming the office of the President of India.
Celebrating a Century of Ol Chiki Script
The primary focus of the President's visit will be to grace the centenary year celebrations of the discovery of the Ol Chiki script. The event will be held at Disom Jaher in Karandih, Sundernagar. President Murmu will deliver a keynote address on the concluding day of a week-long seminar dedicated to the promotion of the Santhali script.
Created in 1925 by Pandit Raghunath Murmu, the Ol Chiki script is a unique writing system developed specifically for the Santhali language. It stands as a powerful symbol of identity, culture, and literary heritage for tribal communities in the region.
Honouring Academic Excellence at NIT Jamshedpur
Following an hour-long engagement at Karandih, the President will proceed to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Jamshedpur. Here, she will preside over the institute's 15th annual convocation ceremony.
According to NIT spokesperson Sunil Bhagat, the event will be held at the new auditorium within the campus. President Murmu will confer degrees and award gold medals to the graduating students. The institute, originally established as the Regional Institute of Technology (RIT) in 1960, was upgraded to NIT status in 2002 and later declared an Institute of National Eminence (INE) in 2007.
