Nagpur Braces for Akshaya Tritiya Festive Buying Surge
Nagpur is poised for a significant wave of festive buying as Akshaya Tritiya approaches, with traders forecasting strong consumer demand across multiple sectors. Citizens are expected to mark this auspicious occasion by purchasing gold, silver, vehicles, electronics, and essential ritual items, fueling economic activity in the city.
Inherent Auspiciousness Drives Investments
Observed as one of the '3.5 muhurtas', Akshaya Tritiya is considered inherently auspicious, allowing individuals to make investments and initiate new ventures without needing to consult the almanac. This traditional belief underpins the festive spending spree, as families purchase gold, silver, and puja essentials with the conviction that such acquisitions bring lasting prosperity and divine blessings.
The occasion is also viewed as an ideal time for starting businesses, buying homes and vehicles, and engaging in charitable acts, which are believed to yield enduring merit. This multifaceted significance contributes to the broad-based economic impact of the festival in Nagpur.
Jewellers Remain Upbeat Despite Record Prices
Jewellers in Nagpur maintain an optimistic outlook despite gold and silver prices reaching record highs. Current market rates show gold quoted at 1.54 lakh per 10 grams and silver at 2.60 lakh per kilogram, excluding GST. These elevated prices have not dampened the festive spirit or buying sentiment among consumers.
Rajesh Rokade, president of the All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council, emphasized the cultural and emotional significance of Akshaya Tritiya as a key driver of sustained demand. He noted that while gold prices have surged sharply from approximately 92,000 last year to over 1.5 lakh this year, purchasing enthusiasm remains robust and could potentially surpass last year's levels.
Faith-Led Spending to Energize Markets
Traders anticipate that faith-led spending will keep Nagpur's markets bustling, with residents leveraging the auspicious occasion to invest in valuable assets, celebrate with new purchases, and launch entrepreneurial ventures. This festive period is expected to generate substantial economic momentum, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions associated with Akshaya Tritiya.
The convergence of cultural practices and consumer behavior during this time highlights the festival's role in stimulating local commerce and reinforcing community bonds through shared rituals and celebrations.
