Kumaraswamy Questions Shivakumar's Asset Surge to Rs 1,400 Crore
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Kumaraswamy has raised serious questions over the sudden rise in Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's assets, which he claimed have reached Rs 1,400 crore. Speaking to the media, Kumaraswamy alleged that Shivakumar is a real estate tycoon and pointed to the Bidadi Township project as a government-backed real estate scheme.
Kumaraswamy stated, 'CM D K Shivakumar is a real estate tycoon. Bidadi Township is the real estate scheme of the government.' He demanded a thorough investigation into the source of Shivakumar's wealth, accusing him of amassing assets through questionable means. The JD(S) leader also criticized the Congress government for allowing such accumulation of wealth by its ministers.
The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions in Karnataka, with the ruling Congress party facing scrutiny over corruption charges. Shivakumar, who also holds the portfolio of Bengaluru Development, has denied any wrongdoing. The Bidadi Township project, a major urban development initiative, has been a focal point of controversy, with opposition parties claiming irregularities in land acquisition and allotment.
Kumaraswamy's remarks have sparked a fresh debate on the financial dealings of Karnataka politicians. He urged the state government to ensure transparency and accountability in public projects. The issue is expected to be raised in the upcoming assembly session, with opposition parties demanding a probe by the Lokayukta or a special investigation team.
