The coastal city of Mangaluru is set to come alive with the vibrant Karavali Utsav, which will officially commence on December 20. Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV announced the detailed plans, revealing that the festival aims to showcase the rich cultural tapestry and scenic beauty of the Dakshina Kannada district through a diverse array of events.
A Multi-Venue Coastal Celebration
The primary festivities will be centered at the Karavali Utsav grounds within the city. However, in a strategic move to boost tourism along the district's picturesque shoreline, special programs have been meticulously planned across six prominent beaches. These include Panambur, Ullal, Someshwar, Sasihithlu, Tannirbhavi, and the Blue Flag Beach at Tannirbhavi.
Each beach will offer a unique experience. Adventure sports enthusiasts can head to Sasihithlu Beach, while Tannirbhavi Blue Flag Beach will host an exclusive wine, cheese, and cake festival. The same Tannirbhavi Beach will also see a music festival and a triathlon event.
Diverse Programs for All Interests
Ullal Beach will transform into a sports arena with football, volleyball, and other competitive events. For culture aficionados, Panambur Beach will be the hub for traditional performances. Someshwar Beach promises serene musical evenings and rejuvenating yoga sessions.
Adding to the gastronomic delight, food festivals celebrating a wide variety of local delicacies will be a staple at all beach venues. Beyond the coast, Kadri Park will host a Kala Parbha and a flower show. Mangaluru city will see a film festival, and Nehru Maidan will be the venue for football tournaments on December 27 and 28. Programs are also scheduled at Pilikula Nisargadhama.
Helicopter Rides and Official Preparations
In a special attraction to enhance public engagement, the district administration has arranged helicopter rides as part of the festival offerings. The preparatory meeting chaired by DC Darshan HV was attended by key officials including Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbhari, assistant commissioner Meenakshi Arya, DCP law and order Mithun HN, and DCF Antony S Mariyappa.
The Karavali Utsav 2024 is poised to be a comprehensive celebration, blending Mangaluru's cultural heritage with adventure, sports, and culinary arts, thereby offering something for every visitor and strengthening the region's tourism appeal.
