Karnataka CM Permanently Shifts Hampi Utsav to November Dates
In a significant announcement, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has declared that the Hampi Utsav will now be held permanently on November 2, 3, and 4 each year, with the new schedule taking effect immediately starting this year. The announcement was made during the inauguration of Hampi Utsav-2026 at the MP Prakash Vedike in Hampi.
Decision Based on Historical Suggestions and Practical Considerations
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah highlighted that the decision to move the festival to November was influenced by a suggestion from former minister MP Prakash, who played a pivotal role in initiating the Hampi Utsav. Prakash had long advocated for a November timeframe to enhance the festival's appeal and participation.
Additionally, Siddaramaiah accepted a proposal from minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, who pointed out that February, the previous month for the festival, often coincides with examination periods for students. This timing made it difficult for families and young people to fully engage in the celebrations. The shift to November is expected to provide a more appropriate and accessible period for festivities, allowing broader community involvement.
Appreciation for Organizers and Focus on Social Equality
During his speech, Siddaramaiah commended district minister Zameer Ahmed Khan for his efforts in ensuring the smooth organization of Hampi Utsav-2026. He emphasized the importance of such cultural events in fostering unity and preserving heritage.
Beyond the festival, Siddaramaiah addressed broader social issues, noting that social inequality persists in society. He outlined his government's commitment to introducing pro-people programmes aimed at helping the poor integrate into the mainstream. He described the guarantee schemes as crucial steps toward achieving economic and social equality.
Echoing the ideals of social reformers Basavanna and Dr. BR Ambedkar, Siddaramaiah stated that true progress can only be realized when economic freedom accompanies political freedom. This vision underscores the government's holistic approach to development and inclusivity.
Event Highlights and Minor Incident
The inauguration ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering, including several ministers, MLAs, MPs, officials, artists, and cultural troupes, showcasing the festival's significance in Karnataka's cultural calendar.
Earlier in the event, a minor fire broke out in front of the stage due to firecrackers bursting during the chief minister's arrival. Fire personnel acted swiftly to extinguish the flames, and the programme continued without any further disruptions, ensuring the safety and smooth progression of the festivities.
This permanent rescheduling of Hampi Utsav to November marks a strategic move to align the festival with more favorable conditions, potentially boosting tourism and cultural engagement in the region. The decision reflects a blend of historical insights and contemporary practicalities, aiming to make the event more inclusive and impactful for all participants.
