In a major crackdown on corruption, the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment on Wednesday arrested Dr Srinivas Yadav, the deputy chief medical officer (Deputy CMO) of Etawah, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 55,000 from a complainant. The arrest was executed during a meticulously planned trap operation at the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in Etawah.
Complaint and Verification
According to officials, the action was initiated following a complaint received by the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment on June 4, 2026. The complainant alleged that he had applied for permission to open an ultrasound centre named 'Shri Ji Ultrasound Clinic' in his wife's name. However, the application file was reportedly not being processed, and Dr Yadav was demanding Rs 55,000 as illegal gratification for forwarding and clearing the proposal. The complainant expressed his unwillingness to pay the bribe and sought the vigilance authorities' intervention to catch the accused red-handed.
Following the complaint, vigilance officials conducted a discreet verification of the allegations. During the preliminary inquiry, the facts mentioned in the complaint were reportedly found to be correct. Based on these findings, the Superintendent of Police, Vigilance Establishment, constituted a special trap team to apprehend the accused while accepting the bribe.
Trap Operation
After planning the operation and completing legal formalities, the team laid a trap on June 10. Officials stated that when the complainant handed over the predetermined amount of Rs 55,000 to Dr Yadav, the vigilance team immediately moved in and caught him red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe. The tainted money was recovered during the operation. The arrest took place inside the office premises of the Chief Medical Officer in Etawah, causing a stir in the local health administration.
Vigilance officials completed the necessary legal procedures on the spot and took the accused into custody for further interrogation. Authorities said that a criminal case is being registered against Dr Srinivas Yadav at the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment Police Station under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and other applicable laws.
Further Investigation
Officials added that further investigation is underway to ascertain whether any other persons were involved in the alleged bribery process and to examine the circumstances surrounding the processing of the ultrasound clinic application. The Vigilance Establishment reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against corruption in government offices and appealed to citizens to report instances where public servants, whether gazetted or non-gazetted officials, demand bribes in exchange for official work.
The agency has urged members of the public to lodge complaints on its anti-corruption helpline numbers 9454401866 and 9454401872 if they encounter any demand for illegal gratification by government officials.
