RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat: Empathy, Not Laws, Sustains Society
Bhagwat: Society Sustained by Empathy, Not Just Laws

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat delivered a powerful message about the importance of empathy and cultural unity in sustaining society during his address in Bengaluru on Friday.

The RSS leader spoke at the valedictory ceremony of the silver jubilee celebrations of Nele Foundation, a caring home for destitute children, where he emphasized that laws alone cannot maintain social harmony.

Beyond Legal Frameworks: The Power of Empathy

Bhagwat articulated that society functions not merely through legal systems but through genuine human connection and emotional bonds. "A society does not function by law alone — it functions through empathy," he stated clearly during his address.

The RSS chief stressed the necessity of developing a deep sense of belonging that resonates emotionally within individuals. He emphasized that this feeling must be profoundly experienced in the heart rather than being just an intellectual concept.

"There must be a sense of belonging, and this feeling of belonging must be deeply experienced in the heart," Bhagwat noted, adding that maintaining awakened sensitivity within ourselves is our fundamental responsibility toward community well-being.

India's Unique Position in Global Context

Bhagwat highlighted India's distinctive heritage that centers around the principle of universal oneness, something he believes sets the nation apart from other countries that possess wealth, scientific advancement, knowledge, and military power.

"There is something they do not have, which we do possess. This sense of oneness — this is our true identity and eternal nature," the RSS chief explained, noting that Indians have inherited this perspective through longstanding cultural traditions.

He connected this ancient wisdom with modern scientific understanding, pointing out that contemporary science also acknowledges the existence of a universal consciousness that is present everywhere and predates everything.

Preserving Heritage for Global Leadership

Bhagwat expressed confidence that when Indian society stands united, the nation will achieve greater heights and potentially become a guiding light for the entire world.

He praised the efforts of organizations like Nele Foundation and various community groups for their role in fostering social cohesion and compassion. "Their efforts have not only made their own lives meaningful, but have enriched the life of the whole world," he acknowledged.

The RSS chief described their work as not only successful and noble but truly worthwhile in the broader context of social development.

Bhagwat concluded with an optimistic vision for India's future, expressing hope that a renewed sense of inner awareness would guide India's growth and enable the nation to teach the world about belonging and unity.

"May Bharat grow, and in growing, may Bharat teach the world this sense of belonging and unity," he stated, encapsulating his message of hope and national purpose.
