Bazm-e-Virasat Festival Opens in Prayagraj

The historic city of Prayagraj witnessed the grand opening of the second edition of the Bazm-e-Virasat festival on Friday. The event, dedicated to celebrating the region's profound cultural, historical, and literary legacy, commenced on a deeply emotional and resonant note, captivating all attendees.

A Personal Inauguration by Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia

The inaugural session was set in motion by former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia (retd), who performed the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. Addressing the audience, Justice Dhulia framed the occasion as intensely personal, stating that inaugurating this festival felt like a matter close to his heart. He eschewed the formality of a lecture, choosing instead to engage in a heartfelt conversation with the gathering.

He spoke fondly of his deep connection with Prayagraj, crediting the Sangam city for shaping the very core of his being. Reflecting on his formative years spent there, he highlighted how the city taught him the enduring values of education, friendship, and love. When asked what Prayagraj gave him, Justice Dhulia expressed his gratitude not in prose, but through the immortal poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz. His recitation of verses speaking of compassion, empathy for the underprivileged, and understanding the silent pain of the oppressed struck a powerful chord, evoking a strong emotional response from the audience.

A Solemn Tribute to Freedom Fighters

The festival also served as a platform for solemn remembrance. A poignant homage was paid to the martyrs of the Kakori Express episode, a significant event in India's freedom struggle. This tribute was brought to life through a powerful Dastangoi (storytelling) performance.

Acclaimed storyteller Himanshu Bajpai presented a compelling narration titled "Dastan-e-Sarfaroshi". His vivid and gripping performance transported the audience back in time, vividly recreating the historical narrative on stage. The moving depiction of sacrifice and valor left the audience visibly moved, culminating in a standing ovation for the artist.

Celebrating the Soul of Prayagraj

The opening day of Bazm-e-Virasat successfully set the tone for a festival that goes beyond mere celebration. It aims to connect the present with the past, honoring the intellectual and revolutionary spirit embedded in the land of Prayagraj. By blending personal nostalgia with historical reverence, the event underscored the city's role as a cradle of culture and a crucible of change in Indian history. The festival continues to explore the rich tapestry of traditions that define this iconic Indian city.
