Bengaluru Sees Surging Demand for Artificial Dimple Surgery Among Women
Bengaluru Women Flock to Plastic Surgeons for Artificial Dimples

Plastic surgeons in Bengaluru are witnessing a remarkable resurgence in women actively pursuing artificial dimple creation, reviving a beauty trend that had previously peaked over a decade ago. This renewed interest marks a significant shift in cosmetic preferences within the city's medical landscape.

Demographic and Financial Aspects of the Trend

Most enquiries originate from women aged between 20 and 40 years, demonstrating a strong demographic concentration. These individuals are prepared to invest substantial amounts, typically ranging from Rs 45,000 to Rs 60,000, to acquire this permanent facial feature that enhances their smile's charm.

Celebrity Influence Driving Current Demand

While the initial dimple fascination of the early 2010s was largely shaped by Bollywood icon Preity Zinta, the contemporary wave finds its inspiration in current stars. Actresses such as Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, along with Sandalwood favourite Rachita Ram, are significantly influencing this cosmetic preference among Bengaluru's female population.

Dr Raghvendra K, consultant plastic surgeon at TriLife Hospital, observed, "Interest has resurfaced prominently over the last few years, particularly among young women. The majority of patients cite the appearance of Bollywood actresses as their primary motivation."

Medical Perspectives and Cultural Significance

Dr Venkatesh MS, HOD and consultant in the department of plastic surgery at Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, emphasized that dimples extend beyond mere cosmetic appeal. "They carry substantial cultural meaning and symbolism in various contexts," he explained, highlighting the procedure's deeper significance for many patients.

Dr Surendra VHH, dermatologist at Apollo Hospitals on Bannerghatta Road, reported consistent monthly enquiries. "I typically see 3-4 patients every month inquiring about artificial cheek dimples, with women in the 20-40 age bracket constituting the overwhelming majority. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and generally requires 1-2 hours to complete," he detailed.

Potential Risks and Necessary Precautions

Despite the growing popularity, medical professionals urge caution, noting that dimple creation surgery carries inherent risks similar to other surgical interventions. Potential complications include temporary numbness, tightness, bruising, soreness, and more serious issues such as oral infections.

Dr Raghvendra specifically warned, "Since the incision is made from inside the oral cavity, infection risk exists, especially if postoperative oral hygiene is not meticulously maintained." He added that in rare instances, the dimple might remain permanently visible instead of appearing only during smiles.

Managing Expectations for Optimal Outcomes

Dr Venkatesh provided crucial advice regarding patient expectations. "It is vital to understand that no cosmetic procedure can completely transform one's appearance to resemble another individual. Therefore, assessing whether patients possess realistic goals is essential—only those with practical expectations will achieve satisfaction with their results," he elaborated.

This comprehensive perspective from Bengaluru's medical community underscores the importance of informed decision-making alongside the rising trend of artificial dimple creation among the city's women.
