Hyderabad Health Week Kicks Off with Focus on Nutrition and Food Safety
Hyderabad's health department inaugurated Health Week with a vibrant "Eat Right – Stay Healthy Mela" at Nature Cure Hospital in Balkampet on Monday. The event, designed to promote public wellness, featured numerous stalls by food vendors showcasing healthy and millet-based culinary options.
Showcasing Nutritious Alternatives and Food Safety Practices
The mela presented a diverse array of nutritious food choices, with particular emphasis on millet-based products, highlighting their health benefits. In a practical demonstration, food safety officials conducted live sessions on detecting adulteration in common household items. These included milk, fruits, vegetables, spices, grains, and tea powder, effectively drawing public attention to essential food safety measures for daily life.
Minister Addresses Lifestyle Concerns and Government Initiatives
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, speaking at the event, expressed deep concern over evolving lifestyle patterns. He identified increased consumption of processed and outside food, coupled with declining physical activity, as primary factors driving rising health issues. The minister stressed that food quality is equally crucial as nutritional value, warning that unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyles are significantly impacting public health.
Rajanarasimha urged citizens to embrace balanced diets, regular exercise, and healthier lifestyles. He directed officials to expand awareness campaigns to reach a broader audience, ensuring more people benefit from these crucial health messages.
Stringent Actions Against Food Adulteration
Highlighting the government's commitment to food safety, the minister revealed that over 11,000 inspections have been conducted in the past two years, with strict actions taken against violators. He announced plans to further intensify enforcement measures, aiming to guarantee access to safe, clean, and quality food for all residents.
The event underscored a comprehensive approach to public health, combining promotion of nutritious foods like millets with robust food safety enforcement, setting a proactive tone for Health Week in Hyderabad.
