16 Programs Launched to Eliminate Violence Against Women

The Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), Dharwad Branch, has initiated a comprehensive series of 16 awareness programs to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. These events will continue across the district until December 10, encompassing multiple important observances including World AIDS Day and Human Rights Day.

Combating Digital Abuse Takes Center Stage

During the inauguration ceremony, FPAI general manager Sujatha Anishettar revealed that this year's campaign focuses on the critical theme "Join the campaign to stop digital abuse." She expressed deep concern about the persistently high rates of violence against women throughout India, noting that women continue to face multiple forms of abuse including physical, sexual, psychological, verbal, economic, and social violence.

Anishettar specifically highlighted the escalating threat of digital platform misuse, which has significantly intensified harmful practices such as image-based harassment, non-consensual sharing of intimate photographs, spreading misinformation through social media channels, online sexual exploitation, and persistent cyberstalking. "Empowering women and girls with proper knowledge, problem-identification skills, and relevant training is essential to counter these emerging challenges," she emphasized, confirming that FPAI remains committed to this crucial mission.

Men's Role in Women's Empowerment

Programme officer NF Madivalar addressed the vital contribution men make in advancing women's empowerment, observing that their substantial participation in these initiatives demonstrates meaningful engagement. He also brought attention to serious health issues affecting numerous women, particularly anaemia, stressing that protecting women's health forms the foundation for their comprehensive empowerment.

"An empowered woman can address challenges across all sectors of society. Through self-employment, unity, confidence, and skill development, women can achieve economic independence," Madivalar asserted, outlining the pathway to women's self-sufficiency.

Community Participation and Support

The event witnessed significant community involvement with prominent attendees including Deepa Mala, Dr Sharada Kematur, Dr Narsarin Honalli, FPAI staff members, and more than 150 women from the local community. This strong turnout reflects growing public awareness and commitment to eliminating violence against women in all its forms.

The 16 programs scheduled until December 10 aim to educate diverse demographic groups including women, men, youth, and children about the importance of ending gender-based violence, preventing HIV/AIDS, and upholding fundamental human rights for all citizens.
